On August 22nd, 2014, visitors from around the globe gathered at Hermitage United Methodist Church in Hermitage, Tennessee USA to celebrate Dr. H. Eddie Fox and his wife’s twenty-five years of leading World Methodist Evangelism.
Visitors, colleagues, well-wishers and friends from every inhabited continent gathered together to celebrate a life in evangelism that has taken Fox from his hometown in the Appalachian mountains in Tennessee to visits and work throughout the world.
Speakers at the celebration include Bishop Michael Watson (United Methodist Church), Bishop Theresa Snorton (Christian Methodist Episcopal Church), Bishop Lawi Imathiu (Methodist Church in Kenya), Rev Dr. Winston Worrell, Director of the World Methodist Evangelism Institute and World Methodist Council General Secretary Ivan Abrahams. Each speaker came from diverse backgrounds, but their common bond – the faith that unites them, was strong.
The speakers spoke of Dr. Fox’s love for evangelism, and his tireless efforts to bring Methodism to every corner of the world. Stories of Fox’s appearance in the Baltic countries, Fiji and Africa were shared, each place still showing the rich fruits of his ministry through churches planted.
After twenty-five years involved with World Methodist Evangelism, and retirement on the horizon, Dr. Fox seems to show few signs of slowing down.
“They say I’m retiring,” he told the audience with a laugh, “but I know that my tongue isn’t.”
