General Secretary Ivan Abrahams brought greetings to the Texas Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church on 26 May, in Houston, Texas. The Texas Conference, host of the 21st World Methodist Conference in 2016, was gathered for their annual meeting and plenary on that Tuesday morning, and Bishop Abrahams issued an invitation for the members of the conference to take part in this historic gathering – the first in the continental United States since 1971. Drawing on the theme of Pentecost and the movement of the Holy Spirit, Bishop Abrahams challenged the conference to strive toward an experience like that of the early church in Acts 15:28 where it was determined that, “We and the Holy Spirit have agreed.” At the end of Bishop Abrahams’ presentation an invitation video was played which can be viewed on YouTube.
Following Bishop Abrahams’ presentation, Bishop Janice Huie, episcopal leader for the conference, stated to the crowd, “get ready – the world is coming to you.”
