The Christian Methodist Episcopal Church celebrated a major birthday in 2015! Organized by 41 former slaves on December 16, 1870, the CME Church, as it is familiarly known, came into being amidst the aftermath of the American Civil War and Reconstruction. History enthusiasts will enjoy reading details of the church’s beginnings on the CME website.
On the day of the anniversary, CME Senior Bishop Lawrence Reddick, III, said “We praise God for 145 years of the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church. May we be the gift God wants us to be.”
We wish the CME Church many more years of fruitful ministry!
