On 21-23 March, the executive officers of the World Methodist Council met in Gothenburg, Sweden. The purpose of this meeting was two-fold: to conduct the businesses of the executive officers of the Council and to tour the proposed venue for the 22nd World Methodist Conference, The Swedish Exhibition & Congress Centre and Gothia Towers.
Representatives from the local host committee included Rev. Lasse Svensson (President) and Mr. George Olvik (Communications) from the host church Equmeniakyrkan (Uniting Church in Sweden), with support from Bishop Christian Alsted and Rev. Øyvind Helliesen of The United Methodist Church of Northern Europe and Eurasia. Those assembled for this Conference Planning Team discussed various ideas for the Conference and toured the exhibition center to begin to formulate a plan for the next Conference.
The Steering Committee of the World Methodist Council will meet in October 2017 to hear some of the discussion that has taken place and will receive a report from the Conference Planning Team.
