The Movimiento Ecuménico por los Derechos Humanos, or MEDH have written a letter of tribute honoring the Madres de Plaza de Mayo (or Mothers of Plaza Mayo) for over40 years of struggling for Memory, Truth, and Justice for missing persons detained or executed by the Argentinian government between 1976 and 1983. The movement began with the disappearance of 10,000 persons including 500 children. In protest, the mothers and grandmothers of the dead, disappeared, and imprisoned marched in the Plaza de Mayo in front of the Government Palace and appeared before the United Nations Human Rights Commission in both New York and Geneva. These brave women were a voice for human rights, especially the vulnerable and marginalized.
