Janice Clark
Secretary WMC/MCB
It has been the custom over the last decade for the British members of the WMC to meet up, to share information of what is happening in committees, how to be more active in the promotion of the WMC within the British connexion and to ensure that everyone is up to date with what is happening within the WMC.
16 January 2018 was our most recent meeting, and unlike all the others this was done using a video conferencing system. For a number of us, it was a first-time experience, the overall comment at the end was, that it had worked extremely well, and that the fact that no travel was involved it not only reduced the cost but also time spent away from other work commitments. It is to be recommended!
The meeting focused on the work of the various committees, It was encouraging to hear from the Inter-Religious committee and its active engagement with the Palestine/Israel situation. From the Social and International Affairs Committee two members had attended a conference on Migrants, organised by Mediterranean Hope. The Ecumenical Committee commented on the ongoing dialogues with various other denominations. From the Family Life Committee , the production of resources for use during Advent was shared. For Theological Education the exchange of plans and ideas continues.
Some of the group were saddened by the lack of contact from committee chairs but are keen to make personal contact with them, to ensure that the committees do not lose their purpose and vision. It is hoped that in the near future other committees will become as active as others.
The meeting in Seoul in July will be the focus of the next meeting in June.
The meeting was one of enrichment and encouragement, and the members reflect the work of WMC as they engage, empower and serve by encouraging Methodist unity in witness, facilitating mission in the world, and fostering ecumenical and inter-religious activities.
